Bluebirds hit high fives against stunned Old Gold to progress in cup
Nathaniel MG Cup – Round 2
Carmarthen Town 0 – Haverfordwest County 5
A refreshing new look Haverfordwest County had too much fire power for Carmarthen to cope with in this cup clash at the LHP Stadium.
This was the first competitive run out of the new season as Tony Pennock’s men scored twice in the first half through striker Daniel Hawkins, a minute after the break and Jacob Owen added a tremendous strike for the third whilst substitutes Ricky Watts and Ben Fawcett bagged late goals to secure their side’s safe passage into the third round.
The Welsh Premier visitors controlled matters against the JD Cymru South outfit, which had a cutting edge feel about their performance which was lacking a lot of last season.
Hawkins opened the scoring with barely five minutes on the clock, thanks to good work from Jacob Owen and debutant Ben Ahmun who set-up the striker who was put in on a plate.
Harri John’s neat pass gave Iori Humphreys the space to cross in the box for Hawkins who swept home with a neat first time finish. Minutes later Rio Dyer struck a wicked effort which crashed against Lee Idzi’s crossbar.
Five minutes after the break, the visitors added a terrific third as Owen collected the ball in acres of space before he unleashed an unstoppable 30 yarder which flew in the top corner. There were further efforts by Harri John and Owain Jones which Idzi had the measure of.
On the stroke of 90 minutes the visitors added a fourth when Owain’s byline cross found Watts who prodded home from close range, minutes later Fawcett found the back of the net to help his team to a comfortable cup victory.
